This book and its companion, SOCIAL DANCE! are designed to be used in conjunction with compact discs (CDs) of the same name. This book is supplied with two CDs and SOCIAL DANCE! with one.

On each CD you will find sets of music which correspond in order to the dances contained in the associated book. Each set of tunes is of sufficient duration to allow the steps to be done at least twice through. The CDs also have voice-over instructions (calls) for the first time through each dance.

The dances in this manual are graded in general order of complexity, with the dances towards the front the easiest, those in the middle slightly more complex and the last few a little more challenging. The dances are generally suitable for ages 7 to adult (year 3 and above).

This book has been divided INTO three sections. The first section (pages 10 to 109) contains all the dance instructions and background notes for the 30 dances as well as a detailed glossary of terms for additional explanation. Section two (pages 110 to 143) contains the written musical scores (with guitar chords) for all the music on the companion CDs - this is particularly useful for school bands.

Pages 144 to 163 contain a detailed social history of dancing in Australia and a number of appendixes which provide extra information to help make this book a comprehensive and complete study of Australian bush dancing. Here you will find all the information you need to develop a complete `social study' for use in the classroom or with dancing groups - it will make your lessons more interesting as well as making bush dancing relevant to your pupils.
